# Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

> How to enable two-factor authentication for your Kontratar account using an authenticator application.

Multi-factor authentication adds a second verification step to your login process. After enabling MFA, you must provide both your password and a time-based code from an authenticator application to log in.

## Supported authenticator applications

* Google Authenticator
* Microsoft Authenticator
* Any TOTP-compatible authenticator app

## Setup process

1. Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
2. Select **Settings**.
3. Click the **Security** tab.
4. In the "Setup 2-Factor Authentication" section, click **Generate Code**. A QR code is displayed.
5. Open your authenticator application and scan the QR code.
6. Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your authenticator app.
7. Click **Verify**.

After successful verification, MFA is active on your account. All future logins require both your password and a code from your authenticator app.

<Note>
  **Store your backup recovery codes in a safe location.** If your authenticator device is lost or unavailable, recovery codes are the only way to regain access to your account.

  If you lose access to your authenticator device and do not have recovery codes, contact support. See [Maintenance and Support](/Maintenanceandsupport).
